Updates on the semiconductor shortages

Due a new lease car in 2022? Order now to avoid chip shortage delays.

You’ve probably heard at some point or another – lots of industries are having issues with a tiny chip that’s playing hard to get. Shortages of semiconductors are causing manufacturing disruptions on a large scale, standing in the way of you getting the keys to a gorgeous new lease car.

Semiconductors are the tiny chips used in the manufacturing process of many electrical goods. They allow for electrical conductivity between a conductor and an insulator or non-conductor, and you’ll find them inside the smartphone or computer device you’re using to read this article. Currently, the supply and demand on semiconductors is not lining up, and many industries are facing issues. You can find the details on the semiconductor shortages here.

The car manufacturing industry is predicted to lose a massive $210 billion in revenue thanks to the chip shortage, with July 2021 seeing the lowest car production figures since July 1956. Because of these huge drops in figures, you might find that the typical car price has inflated.

What does this mean for lease cars?

The shortage of semiconductors means that lead times on our lease vehicles are increasing. It’s not ideal, and we would love to have an answer for these issues (anyone have some semiconductors to spare..?) but the shortages are showing no signs of stopping.

If you are currently waiting for a lease car order, there are delays on delivery times as production is behind schedule due to the shortage. Overall, lead times on lease car orders are increasing and we appreciate that this is more than a bit annoying for our customers. We are doing everything we can to get things moving, so please just bear with us and stand by for updates.

Some of our lease models are now facing over twelve months wait time, so if you’re due a new upgrade next year – it’s time to put in your order! The friendly motorlet team are always here to help, so if you are ready to order or have some questions, reach out and we’ll give you a hand.

What models are impacted by the semiconductor shortage?

The Diesel Land Rover Evoque model is currently running a wait time of over twelve months, so it’s best to get your order in quick if you can see this being your next lease car. Land Rover and Jaguar are also facing twelve month waits on a few of their vehicles and have even stopped taking orders of key models.

As well as longer wait times, some specifications are being dropped from models. Audi have stopped allowing orders for panoramic roofs, and no longer include wireless charging in their models. Some Audi models will be delivered with only one Smart Key, and they’re also limiting certain packages with different options, that have previously been able to add to our lease cars.

At Mercedes, they’ve removed their augmented navigation system, and no longer include wireless charging in their vehicles. The Premium Plus pack will also not be available in some models.

Some manufacturers are having to pull models from availability. Volkswagen have just announced that they won’t be producing any T-Roc models, but we can help you find a suitable alternative.

What shall I do now?

If you need a new lease car for next year, now is the time to order. That way, your new lease car will be available as soon as you’re ready and you won’t need to play a waiting game. If you’re waiting for a delivery of a lease car currently, we’re doing everything we can to speed up the process and we’ll be sure to keep you informed.
