Semi-conductor shortages affecting Audi lease orders.

Some Audi lease car orders will experience changes in equipment options, due to global shortages on semi-conductors.
Semi-conductor shortages affecting Audi lease cars

How semi-conductor changes will impact your Audi lease car order.

Audi Phone Box and Phone Box Light features will no longer be fitted in Audi models as standard, with the exception of the Audi e-tron GT and the Audi R8.

Other Audi lease car orders will now only be delivered with one Smart Key, along with a spare key that allows access to the vehicle but will not start the engine.

The Audi A1, A3, TT and R8 will still be delivered with two Smart Keys and a spare, as normal.

What will replace the missing features caused by semi-conductor shortages?

The Audi Phone Box and Phone Box Light features will be replaced with Audi Bluetooth interface, which will allow smartphones to be connected to the vehicle via Bluetooth. This feature means that music can be played from the smartphone via Bluetooth and calls can be answered through the car.

Depending on your smartphone model, the Audi Multimedia Interface (MMI) can also display text messages and emails.

What are semi-conductors and why are there shortages?

Semi-conductor shortages have been causing issues in a variety of industries. These tiny chips are mainly used to control electric currents and are responsible for the electric functions within our vehicles.

Supply and demand of semi-conductors has been an area of concern for a while, even before the pandemic. The semi-conductors manufacturing process came to a standstill throughout the COVID-19 lockdowns, but demand of the chips only increased. It can take up to three months to make a semi-conductor, so the supply chain has been heavily delayed. You can read more about the semi-conductor shortage here.

How will this impact your Audi lease car?

Your Audi lease car will see its Audi Phone Box and Phone Box Light features replaced with the Audi MMI system, whilst all other features will remain the same. You will not be affected by these replacements if your lease car is an Audi e-tron GT or an Audi R8.

All Audi models, apart from the Audi A1, A3, TT and R8 will be delivered with only one Audi Smart Key and one spare valet key.

When it comes to your Audi lease car, you will not experience any changes in your payments unless any of the replaced features were an added ‘cost option’.

How long will semi-conductor shortages affect Audi lease car orders?

It is expected that semi-conductor shortages will continue to affect Audi lease car orders into 2022. It’s a global shortage that cannot be easily solved, but all parties are working hard to come to a solution.

Representatives from our Audi supplier apologise for any inconvenience these shortages have caused.
