Choose SMART Plus Insurance for your lease car

SMART Plus Insurance.

We all like to keep our lease cars looking as fresh as possible, so it can be a real pain when minor damages appear as a result of day-to-day use. Small scratches and dents are usually the ones that pain us the most – it’s so small, is it worth getting it repaired? But if you don’t, will it pop out and annoy you on a daily basis?

There’s a solution for this and it comes in the form of SMART Plus Insurance – a brilliant and cost-effective way to ensure your lease car will stay looking fresh.

What is SMART Plus Insurance?

SMART Plus Insurance covers any repair to your lease car that can be completed within one hour and falls under the ‘Small to Medium Area Repair Technique’.

This insurance covers minor cosmetic damage to your lease car that has occurred due to typical, everyday use. This can be anything from minor scratches or scuffs or small dents. You will not be covered for repairs that fall outside of the SMART Plus Insurance guidelines.

What repairs are included with SMART Plus Insurance?

If you choose SMART Plus Insurance for your lease car, any repair work that falls inside the policy guidelines will be covered.

This includes –

• A minor dent to a metal body panel, no bigger than 30cm in diameter.

• A scuffed bumper, less than 30cm in diameter, and no deeper that 3mm.

You can receive up to 10 alloy wheel repairs during the policy period, at a maximum of £150 per repair (including VAT) and £1,500 (including VAT) in total. These can be repairs for damage to the alloys that was a result of accidental or malicious circumstances.

If your alloy wheel is beyond repair, you’ll receive a maximum contribution of up to £150 per wheel to get a replacement.

Are there any restrictions on SMART Plus Insurance cover?

SMART PLUS Insurance covers damage that is a result of day-to-day motoring – this is different to wear-and-tear. You need to be at least 18-years-old to get SMART Plus Insurance, and must be a resident of the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, or Isle of Man. You cannot get this type of insurance if you have waited longer than 30 days to purchase the policy after purchasing your vehicle, or if the vehicle was purchased as an emergency or commercial vehicle, a taxi, courier vehicle, licensed private hire vehicle, daily rental vehicle, or breakdown and recovery vehicle. You also will not be able to get SMART Plus Insurance if you are using the vehicle for hire and reward, dispatch, driving school, chauffeuring, road racing, track days, pace-making, speed-testing, or any other competitive event.

Basically, this has to be a lease car that’s only for personal use, and you have to take out the policy no later than 30 days after purchasing.

How do I pay for my SMART Plus Insurance?

SMART Plus Insurance is slightly different to your average insurance, as you’ll purchase the entire policy at one time. This means you won’t spread this insurance across a monthly basis, but you’ll pay it off at the time of taking it out.

The cover will start on the date detailed in your policy schedule and will run until you no longer meeting the eligible criteria, you finish your lease contract, you’ve hit your maximum number of claims, you’ve cancelled the policy (or the insurance company have), or you’ve reached the expiry date.

What if I want to cancel my cover?

In the event that you want to cancel your SMART Plus Insurance over, you can do so within 30 days of receiving the policy, as long as you have not made a successful claim.

If you haven’t made a successful claim and cancel after the 30 days, you’ll be required to pay the number of months you’ve had the insurance, and the rest will be returned to you with the subtraction of a £50 administration fee. No refund is possible if any successful claims have been paid.

I’ve taken out SMART Plus Insurance – what do I have to do now?

Once you’ve received your policy, you’re fully covered under your SMART Plus Insurance guidelines. You will be required to always update your details if there are any changes that might impact your policy, otherwise it may be declared as invalid, and claims will not be paid. You must always take reasonable care to answer all questions accurately, so your details are correct. Any changes in circumstances that might impact your policy should be reported as soon as possible. If you sell or transfer ownership of the vehicle, you’ll need to update your policy.

If you need to make a claim on your SMART Plus Insurance, you need to do so within thirty days from the incident date.
